Help Understanding your results
Categories
Compare your visibility category by category, see who leads each one, and set the order of your categories.
Categories overview
Open AI visibility → Categories. A category groups prompts on one topic. Each row shows the category’s active prompts and its results in the latest scan, with the change against the previous scan:
- Visibility — the share of answers that name your brand. Prompts that name your brand or a competitor are not counted.
- Share of voice — your mentions as a share of all tracked brand mentions in the category’s answers.
- Position — your average position among the brands named.
- Category leader — the brand with the highest visibility in the category; it can be you.
- Gap — your visibility minus the leader’s. When you lead, it is your lead over the next brand.
Narrow the results to particular AI models or funnel stages with the filters above the table.
A category in which every prompt names a brand shows Not in metrics instead of a visibility value. When only some of its prompts name a brand, the prompt count says how many of them are branded. A dash means the category has no scan data yet.
Uncategorized at the bottom of the table counts active prompts without a category. They are not included in the category comparison. Show prompts opens them in Prompts.
How to change the order of categories
Drag a row by its handle to a new place. With the keyboard, focus the handle, press Space or Enter to pick the category up, move it with the up and down arrow keys, and press Space or Enter to drop it, or Escape to cancel.
The order is used for categories in filters, charts and reports. The first category is marked Main: it is the default for prompt generation and recommendations. To change the main category, drag another one to the top.
Viewers can read the page but can’t change the order or edit categories.
How to add, edit or delete a category
- Click Add category.
- Enter a name and, optionally, a description. The name must be unique.
- Click Create category.
The number next to the buttons shows how many categories you have out of your plan’s limit.
To change a category, open the menu at the end of its row: Name and description edits it, Change color sets its colour and Delete category removes it.
Good to know Deleting a category keeps its prompts and their answers. The prompts are left without a category.
Suggest categories proposes categories your current ones don’t cover; see Prompts and categories.
How to read a category
Click a row to open the category. The header shows how many prompts it has and its position in the order. The four figures at the top are its Visibility, Share of voice, Average position when your brand is named, and Gap to the leader with the leader’s name. The same model and funnel stage filters apply.
Below them:
- Brands in this category — the tracked brands named in the category’s answers, ranked by visibility. Open in Competitors opens Competitors filtered to this category.
- Sources cited in answers — the five domains cited most often in the category’s answers, with Your site marked. Open in Sources opens Sources for the category.
- Prompts in this category — each prompt with its visibility and position. Click a prompt to read its answers.
Use Edit to change the name and description. The menu next to it changes the colour or deletes the category.
How to generate prompts for a category
On the category page, click Generate prompts. A confirmation shows how many prompts will be added. After you confirm, new prompts are scanned right after they appear. The rules and limits are the same as on the Prompts page; see How to generate prompts.
Categories in other filters
Elsewhere in the app, the categories selector is a filter. You can select one or more categories, or Uncategorized for prompts without one. To create, edit, delete or reorder categories, use Manage categories in the selector, which opens this page.
