Channels
Set up the accounts and publication formats your brand can use in campaigns.
Channels overview
Open Channels for the current brand’s publishing destinations. A channel can be a platform account or your own site. Each placement describes one way to publish there, such as an article or a press release.
These are reusable settings. A Campaign adds its own publication rows using enabled placements. Service’s conversation channels have a separate purpose: discussing work with your team and service provider. See Service.
Add a publishing channel
- Click Add a channel. Choose an available platform template or Custom channel. Multiple channels can use the same template, for example two accounts on one platform.
- Enter Name. The dialog generates an identifier from the selection and name.
- Click Create to open the channel.
A template supplies platform-maintained documents that your own documents refine. With a custom channel, you maintain the publishing requirements yourself. Creating either kind does not connect an account or publish material.
Describe the account and its publishing requirements
Open Publishing account and record the account link, its owner, how to obtain publishing access and any account limits. Keep passwords and keys out of this document. Save your changes.
Platform rules records publishing restrictions and official guidance. A custom channel requires this document as well as the account document. On a template channel, your additions refine the supplied platform rules. Tone in this channel is optional and adds channel-specific guidance alongside the shared Brand documents.
Add a placement and complete its documents
Use Add placement. Choose a placement template when one is offered, or Custom placement. Enter a name and create it. If there are no placement templates, the dialog goes straight to naming a custom placement.
A placement covered by a platform template needs the channel’s account document before it can be enabled. For a custom placement, also save What is this placement for?, Publication requirements and How to publish the material?. These describe the audience and purpose, the publication format, and the publishing steps. A placement on a custom channel also needs the channel’s platform-rules document.
Which metrics should we track? is optional. Use it to describe where and when to collect results. Automatic checks accepts JSON rules for checks before content review. Keep it empty to retain the platform’s checks. Custom error rules block submission to review; warnings are passed to the reviewer.
Enable a placement and then its channel
- Open About the placement. Follow its checklist links to the missing required documents. When ready, turn on Enabled for campaigns.
- Return to About the channel. The channel needs its own required documents and at least one enabled placement. Turn on Enabled for campaigns.
- Add the placement to a campaign. Both switches must be on for new campaign selection.
You can edit the display name and description in the About panes and save. Turning a switch off retains existing campaign references. Turning off the last enabled placement automatically switches its channel off. Publishing the approved material still takes place on the destination account or site; record its live URL in the campaign.
