Ads in answers

See which brands advertise below ChatGPT’s answers to your prompts, and in which answers.

ChatGPT can show an ad below an answer. Supasaito keeps the ad apart from the answer text. An ad is not a mention: it does not count toward visibility, sentiment or sources.

An ad in the answer

Open a prompt in AI visibility → Prompts. When a ChatGPT answer came with an ad, its header shows Ad below the answer, and the ad appears under the answer text, marked Ad: image, advertiser, title, description and a link to the advertiser’s site.

Next to the advertiser is its status:

  • You — the ad leads to one of your brand’s domains.
  • Competitor — a tracked competitor.
  • Possible competitor — a brand in your possible-competitors list.
  • Not tracked — none of the above.

The status is matched by the ad’s domain. For a possible competitor or an untracked advertiser, Add as competitor opens the competitor form with the name and domain filled in. Once you save it, the advertiser shows as a competitor everywhere, including earlier ads.

The Ads in answers page

Open AI visibility → Ads in answers. Choose the period (7, 28 or 90 days) and, if needed, the funnel stages. The line next to the filters gives how many ChatGPT answers the page counts.

The four figures at the top:

  • Answers with ads — the share of ChatGPT answers to your active prompts that came with an ad, and its change against the previous period of the same length.
  • Advertisers — how many advertisers other than you appeared, and how many of them are new this week.
  • Competitors advertising — tracked competitors with at least one ad, out of all tracked competitors.
  • Your ads — in how many answers an ad led to your own domains.

The Advertisers table lists each advertiser with its status, the number of prompts whose answers showed its ad, Share of answers with the change against the previous period, the categories of those prompts and its latest ad title.

Ads by category shows the share of answers with ads in each category, with the advertisers seen there. Where competitors advertise lists the prompts where tracked competitors’ ads appeared, with how many of the prompt’s answers carried them; click a prompt to open its answers.

In the prompt list and Competitors

In Prompts, the Ads column shows how many ChatGPT answers in the latest scan came with an ad, for example 2 of 3. The Ads filter keeps prompts With ads, With competitor ads or Without ads.

In Competitors, the Ads in ChatGPT column counts the prompts where ChatGPT showed that competitor’s ad in the last 28 days.

What the numbers cover

  • Only ChatGPT answers captured from the ChatGPT interface can carry ads. Answers from other models, and ChatGPT answers obtained another way, never have ads.
  • ChatGPT shows ads to signed-out and free users. The scan captures the answer as such a buyer sees it.
  • Ads exist only for scans made after this feature appeared; earlier answers show none.
  • An advertiser whose name also appears in the answer text is still counted as a mention there; only the ad block itself is kept apart.
